LAMBETH COUNCIL CHIEF EXECUTIVE, 46, IS CHARGED WITH DRINK DRIVING

The £190,000-a-year chief executive of a Labour-run council in London has been charged with drink driving and drug offences.

Bayo Dosunmu, who works for Lambeth Council, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident in the capital.

The 46-year-old from Hammersmith was charged with failing to stop after a road accident and being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Dosunmu, who was also charged with possession of class A drugs and driving without insurance, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 1.

He earns £187,775 a year according to a Lambeth Council document from November 2022, and also receives a further unknown payment for his role as Returning Officer.

Dosunmu was expected to carry out this role during the upcoming General Election, but an acting Returning Officer will now need to be appointed before July 4.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman told MailOnline today: 'Bayo Dosunmu, 46, of Hammersmith was arrested on Sunday, June 23 in the Westminster area.

'He was charged on Monday, June 24 with possession of a controlled drug of Class A; driver of a vehicle fail to stop after a road accident; in charge of motor vehicle - alcohol level above proscribed limit; use a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance.

'He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 1.'

And a Lambeth Council spokesman said: 'Lambeth Council chief executive Bayo Dosunmu is currently away from work and the council has put in place interim leadership arrangements.

'We are unable to make any further comment due to an ongoing police investigation.'

Dosunmu became the council's chief executive in July 2022 having previously worked as its deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services.

He has also held roles  at Homes England and the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as for the Welsh Government and the Olympic Delivery Authority.
