PUB OWNER CONTINUES ANNUAL WIMBLEDON QUEUE TRADITION
A pub owner from Kent has been camping overnight in a queue for Wimbledon tickets as he continues the tradition he started 32 years ago.
Harry Taylor, who owns the Red Lion Inn in Bridge, arrived on Saturday morning and will spend the entire fortnight of the tournament camping and rejoining the queue the next day.
He said: "I have friends from Australia, from New Zealand, from America, and we have known each other for over 20 years and we met in the queue.
"So every year we just meet each other.”
Mr Taylor is even doing a postal vote for the General Election so he does not miss the action.
He said lots of people in the queue did postal votes 'because that was the only way, we couldn't miss the queue".
Mr Taylor, who watched Emma Raducanu win on Centre Court on Monday, first started joining the annual queue in 1992.
"It's the greatest tennis tournament in the world and it's right on our doorstep," he said.
The pub owner also spoke to BBC Radio Sussex about how he had braved the elements over the years, and even had a local gym membership so he could use the shower.
