RISHI SUNAK: MY FINAL APPEAL TO LONDONERS TO VOTE TORY

Tomorrow, Londoners will be part of deciding the nation’s future. You will be casting your ballot in one of the most important elections in a generation.

We have a record of taking the bold action this country needs and a clear plan for the future. Labour has no plan and they have not been upfront and honest about what they would do in power. They are asking you to sign a blank cheque so that, in addition to the tax rises in their manifesto, they can raise your taxes by another £2,094. Your car, your house, your pension — you name it, Labour would tax it.

I get the frustration people feel towards me and the Conservatives. There’s no doubt that times have been tough in recent years. The pandemic and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine triggered prices to soar, hitting families hard. We had to take difficult decisions to stabilise the nation’s finances, but the plan is working. Inflation is back down to target at two per cent, real wages have been rising for almost a year and the economy is growing again at the fastest rate in the G7.

As a result, we have been able to start cutting taxes for working people to make sure work always pays. We will go further cutting National Insurance again, delivering a total tax cut of £1,350 a year for the average worker by 2027. And we will abolish the main rate of National Insurance contributions paid by the self-employed.

We will help more young people into the housing ladder by abolishing stamp duty for first-time buyers up to £425,000 too and creating a new improved Help to Buy scheme.

We will put more money in parents’ pockets by reforming child benefits and protect pensioners by stopping the new state pension being dragged into income tax for the first time in its history. Labour have failed to match any of these commitments because they have a £38.5 billion financial black hole to fill and think they can always spend your money better than you can.

Sadiq Khan has revealed where Labour’s instincts lie. Higher taxes, Londoners forced to pay per trip to the supermarket thanks to his Ulez extension. Millions of pounds wasted on vanity projects. Record strikes. Knife crime up by nearly two-thirds under his watch. If Labour win, expect pay-per-mile road taxes, higher council taxes and rising crime rates.

If Labour have unchecked power with no accountability, they would do untold harm to our country. We Conservatives will stand up for Londoners, cut your taxes and make sure your voice is heard.
