SNACK ITEM RECALLED OVER RISK OF ANIMAL FAECES

A Japanese snack is being pulled off New Zealand shelves over the risk of animal faeces in the product.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) on Wednesday issued a recall notice for the Morinaga brand Manna Bolo snack.

"Tokyo Food Ltd and Wholesale Club are recalling all batches and dates of Morinaga brand Manna Bolo (34g), due to the potential presence of foreign matter (animal droppings). Affected products should not be consumed," the notice said.

The product, which is imported from Japan, is sold at Wholesale Club stores and selected ethnic grocery stores throughout New Zealand.

The product has not been re-exported.

"Affected product should not be consumed. There have been no reports of associated illness, however if you have consumed any of this product and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice," MPI advised.

"Customers should return the product to their retailer for a full refund."
