MAFS COMMUNITY IN MOURNING AS FORMER CONTESTANT DIES AT 33

Andrew Jury, who participated in the New Zealand edition of Married at First Sight has passed away, aged 33.

His former castmates took to social media to announce the death of the Auckland-based builder.

A joint statement shared by former contestants including Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell read;

“It’s with the heaviest hearts we’ve come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury. We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show which leaves us intricately linked for a lifetime. Despite his struggles, Andrew was always friendly and the life of the party during our shared experience and he really valued his time on the show. At this time our entire cast wish to send our deepest condolences and love to his family.”

The groom appeared in the first season of MAFS NZ in 2017. The then 26-year-old was matched with Vicky Gleeson-Stokes and the pair married, however, they failed to make it beyond the finale.

Following his time on the show, Andrew spoke out, questioning the ethics of the show and whether couples were “genuinely” matched.

“I make great TV, but my wife and me were not matched in the slightest,” he told the New Zealand Herald at the time. ” She’s a princess, I’m a bogan. How can they say it’s a legit process when you get the complete opposite of what you want?”

Warner Bros Discovery, which broadcasts the reality show in NZ, shared a statement following news of Andrew’s passing.

“WBD takes duty of care extremely seriously and has protocols in place regarding the wellbeing of cast and crew,” a spokesperson said in a statement, according to the New Zealand Herald.

“All MAFS NZ contributors have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, including pre-screening, during production and after broadcast.”
